Hailing from Provo, Utah, Jen Brown's journey through life has been marked by a deep sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on her community. After graduating from Weber State University with a degree in microbiology, Jen's pursuit of knowledge led her to Creighton Dental School in Omaha, Nebraska, where she honed her skills in dentistry. In 2004, armed with her degree and a passion for creating a better world, Jen returned to her roots in Bountiful, Utah, along with her husband Mike and their five cherished boys, who are the driving force behind their lives.

Jen's devotion to safeguarding the well-being of children and adolescents has been a guiding principle in her life. Her advocacy began in the crucial arena of protecting young minds from the harmful effects of pornography. With a determined spirit, she actively contributed to the development of legislative bills, including a landmark resolution that recognized pornography as a public health crisis. A testament to her dedication, her paper on the distinct impact of sexually explicit material on the adolescent brain was published in the prestigious Journal of Adolescents. Not content with simply sharing her findings locally, Jen's commitment took her across continents, as she traveled to Switzerland to present her groundbreaking research at the World Congress of Neurology. Her involvement extended to the realm of thought leadership, where she graced the Bountiful TEDx event with her insights.

At the heart of her community engagement lies a desire to create a safer and more nurturing environment for Utah's youth. Jen proudly led the charge as the director of the Safe Internet for Utah Kid’s campaign, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with the tools to navigate the digital landscape responsibly. This drive to protect the next generation's innocence from destructive influences serves as a driving force behind her involvement in shaping public policy.

Jen's passion for community betterment goes beyond safeguarding children. With her dynamic leadership, she has served as the president of both the United Women’s Forum and the Davis County Republican Women, fostering meaningful connections and fostering positive change. Her dedication to strengthening the local business landscape is evident in her membership with the Davis Chamber of Commerce, where she actively participates in the Legislative Affairs Committee.

Above all, Jen's unshakeable love for her country and her profound reverence for the Constitution have led her to establish Utah Citizens for the Constitution and The Constitution Education Foundation. Lisa Ferguson believes parents, grandparents, friends and siblings better engage with children through interaction, not screen time. She's created an APP called: While We're Waiting

 

This APP has hundreds of games, and ideas to engage children while waiting at the doctor, in line at the store, on a road trip, during a meeting. She believes that the key to creative interaction is preparation. This APP provides suggestions, games, ideas and conversation starters. While waiting, parents, caregivers, friends often don't have time to think creatively, and come up with ideas. A quick scroll through this APP makes on the go interactions easy and fun.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to share with listeners about the app I created that helps parents, grandparents and teachers help children be successful in challenging situations such as waiting. Much of our lives are spent  waiting; in lines, in traffic, at appointments etc and this is difficult for children due to their underdeveloped attentional network in the brain. It is also the cause for many negative interactions. 

I am a mother, grandmother, preschool director and teacher for 38 years and  have a bachelors degree in early childhood education and a masters in education. I am passionate about helping parents understand little people and how their brains develop and giving them tools to help with parenting and alternatives to screens."

He loves to hunt things that move and he loves his caffeine. Each school librarian orders books appropriate for its community based upon demographic, age appropriateness and other factors as established by the State, State Board of Education, and County School Board. Our community of Oaxaca in Utah is a non-profit organization, and we are happy to be able to show our beautiful state of Oaxaca through the food, tradition, customs, education, dance, and love of our Oaxacan people. 

The Guelaguetza

  

Norma Carver is the brilliant creator of Oaxaca in Utah which began more than 10 years ago. During the course of that time it was decided in 2020 to carry out the first Guelaguetza, we were 7 families that came together and enjoyed our beautiful Oaxaca.

Please join them on July 22, 20203 in Kaysville at Heritage Park for their Celebration of Culture, Food, Traditions and Small Businesses!

In 2021 it is decided to make the first public Guelaguetza for the state of Utah. The event was a success, we had the participation of 500-550 people.

 

This 2022 La Guelaguetza 2022 is organized and the number of people is 7,000 people who came together in one place to enjoy this solemn Oaxacan festivity.

Jaysen Christensen: Kaysville City Manager

Please join with us in welcoming Jaysen Christensen. Kaysville CIty's 3rd City Manager. Jaysen joined us this month and has hit the ground running. 

Jaysen Christensen has over 20 years of experience in municipal management, primarily in suburban cities of the St. Louis Missouri region. He has served as City Administrator in some of the most desirable communities in Missouri, including Glendale and Frontenac. Jaysen grew up in Pleasant Grove and received his BA and MPA at BYU. He has strong orientation toward delivering great customer service and is more than excited and honored to come to work in Kaysville, which already feels like home.

He and his beautiful, smart, amazing wife, Heidi, met at BYU and have four children. Zach, Kate, and Bryan are currently in college at Alaska, BYU, and Utah State respectively. The youngest, Erin, will be in 8th grade this fall. All four are track and cross country enthusiasts, and Erin is thrilled at the opportunity to eventually go to one of the best running schools in the entire country at Davis High!

In his free time, Jaysen loves all kinds of music, Indian food, everything from the '80s, and adventuring anywhere with the family.
